Podcast #11: Dron3 vs Mr Innis – Live DJ set @ Nourish 11 – from the Archives

Combined, DJs Dron3 and Mr Innis have over 25 years of dancefloor rockin’ experience.
This was one of the best sets that ever flowed through the Nourish soundsystem. The DJs received an enthusiastic ovation afterwards.
They are playing on two Technics Turntables, two Pioneer CDJs and two mixers and are more often than not in the mix.
Podcast #10: Jerry Ocol – Live DJ set @ Nourish 11 – from the Archives

Jerry Ocol (DJ Anak) is a DJ, scout, and organizer for the Jyotih Network. Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, he is both an electronic music DJ and an acoustic songwriter. As a DJ, he has performed at outdoor festivals such as Pollination and Intention.
Although Jerry is an old-school DJ at heart and loves vinyl, he also works with CDJ’s. He plays a wide range of musical genres including ethnic and acid jazz downtempo, house, techno, trance, and socially conscious rap and R&B. As an acoustic musician, he plays guitar, piano and harmonica and has performed both with bands and as a solo artist all over the world, from clubs in Vancouver to train stations and festivals in Japan.
Jerry’s work for the Jyotih Network brings together his passion for social justice and music. He is currently studying towards a Social Service Worker Certificate and hopes to further serve the Downtown Eastside as an Outreach Worker.
Podcast #9: Emmanuel Ferreira – Live DJ set @ Nourish 12 – from the Archives

Emmanuel has been an underground favorite in the breakbeat scene for years. He is recognized mostly for his unique track selection and superb mixing skill. His sets always manage to sound fresh and exciting, drawing from many influences such as Danny McMillan, Tipper, Luke Vibert, Precision Cuts, Bushwacka, Phil K, Habersham and Uberzone to name a few. His versatility is also astounding, creating the perfect atmosphere no matter what time of the night he plays.
He became inspired to take up DJing after watching his local heroes Andrew Spence (fka DJ SLIM aka the saxophonist on Rennie Pilgrem’s ‘Pilgrimeage’) and NUDLEZ slam it down at many a party back in the day. Their take on breaks was different from the hip-hop influenced breakbeat being spun out at the time. He went out and bought his first two records (an ep from Rainbow Bridge and DJ Graeme’s original mix of El Nino) and has been building his collection ever since.
The future looks very exciting for this young lad, currently honing his production skills and pushing the breaks sound while securing gigs abroad and building Vancouver’s fledgling record label. Expect to hear more from this rising talent in the future!
Podcast #8: Ronin – Live DJ set @ Nourish 9 – from the Archives
I’ve been taking Djing seriously on and off for the past twelve or so years, but I have been dabbling since I was in my early teens. I was into hip-hop, dancehall and R&B mostly. I worked security and primarily the door at many events, festivals, clubs and raves all over the place but never really took part in the events. They were mostly representing trance, techno and house which were not, at the time, interesting to me. I was a hip-hop head through and through.
A trip to Australia and a divine moment of truth turned me onto progressive trance and I played that for 6-7 years as well as concentrating a lot on the chill stage – usually shooting for the bumpy dance floor down through mid tempos.
A few years ago on a half day road trip and weekend festival in Alberta hanging with Ooah of the Glitch Mob changed my musical path.
That festival was my last trance set and I took a full year off to re-up the music crate. I decided that midi was the way to go, but not feeling Ableton for DJing I was inspired by a friend and went with a DJ controller and I dig it. I don’t use any syncing or anything like that. Just loops, filters, effects and samples. I like my pitch control and platters.
I have been trying to mix tracks from different genres that create a unique and emotional setting without going too hard, too cheesy, too glitchy, too dubsteppy, too hip-hoppy, too predictable, disjointed, too well planned out or boring. I have my moments for sure and am still working at it and learning every step of the way. I have slayed, I have just held it down and I have completely missed the mark. People are still booking me and I am playing as much as I would want, so somebody’s feeling it…
Podcast #7: Jerry Ocol – Progressive Love

This mix was conceived with the intention of moving your body on the dance floor while remaining centered.
These progressive house and techno tracks on this demo were selected for their ability to move you physically and emotionally. Carefully selected tracks enable the listener and dancer to go on their own personal journeys with the DJs assistance. I hope I have attained this for you. These tracks are my personal favourites in which they flow together seamlessly but do not sound similar to each other.
Together, you and I can rock the dance floor with much gratitude. For more info, please contact me through this website. Jerry Ocol (Anak) is a resident DJ for the Jyotih Network.
